Turn a photo into a crochet graph
Choose a photo and get a colorwork graph with cells shaped like single crochet stitches, so the finished piece isn't squashed. You don't need an account to convert.
The conversion runs in your browser. Your photo is not uploaded.
How it works
Drop in a photo
Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP. The graph is drawn in your browser and redrawn when you change a setting, and the photo isn't uploaded.
Set the width and colors
Pick how many stitches wide the piece should be and the most yarn colors you want to manage. Every extra color is another ball or bobbin to carry, so it pays to start low.
Keep editing
Open the graph in the editor to tidy stray stitches, recolor, and export a printable chart with symbols and a color key.
Frequently asked
- Why are the cells wider than they are tall?
- A single crochet stitch is usually a little wider than it is tall, so a picture charted on square cells comes out squashed once it's worked. The converter uses cells 1.25 times as wide as they are tall, the proportion of a common worsted gauge of 12 single crochet and 15 rows to 4 inches, and adds rows to match.
- Which crochet techniques is this for?
- Techniques worked from a graph where each cell is one stitch in one color, such as single crochet graphghans. Tapestry crochet, where the unused colors are carried inside the stitches, often comes out closer to square, so check it against a swatch. Corner to corner (C2C) works one tile per square, so a graph from this page would come out about 25% too tall in C2C.
- How big will the finished piece be?
- That depends on your yarn, hook, and tension. Crochet a swatch, count the stitches and rows over 4 inches, and enter them in the gauge calculator to see the finished size.
- Does it pick real yarn colors?
- No. Yarn lines each have their own colors, so the converter picks the colors that best fit your photo and shows how many stitches use each one. Match them to yarn you have, or change any color in the editor.
- Do I need an account?
- Not to convert a photo. The editor needs a free account, and the chart you made here opens in it when you sign up in the same browser.
- Is my photo uploaded?
- No. The conversion runs in your browser and the photo stays on your device. Only the finished chart goes into the editor, and only if you choose to open it there.
