Frequently asked

How does it find the closest DMC color?
Your color and all 489 solid DMC Mouliné colors are converted to CIELAB, a color space laid out so that equal distances look about equally different. The flosses are then ranked by that distance, called ΔE (the CIE76 formula). Around 2 is about the smallest difference most people can see side by side. Above 10 the difference is easy to see.
Why doesn't the match look exactly like my color?
DMC makes 489 solid colors, so plenty of colors fall between two flosses. The hex values for floss are also approximations of the dyed thread, and every screen shows color a little differently. For color-critical work, check the match against a physical DMC shade card.
Where do I find a color's hex code?
Most drawing and design apps show the hex code in their color picker, usually as six characters like 4A7FB5. You can also paste an RGB value such as 74, 127, 181, or use the color picker next to the box.
Does it show Anchor numbers too?
Yes. Each DMC match lists its Anchor equivalent from published conversion charts, where one exists. To go the other way, use the Anchor to DMC chart.
Can I use it for diamond painting drills?
Drills are numbered with DMC codes, so the matches work for drills too, with one catch: most drill charts carry 447 colors and leave out DMC 01 to 35 and seven other numbers (504, 731, 776, 781, 806, 971 and 3773). If your top match is one of those, use the closest match that isn't.
