How to read a pattern chart
Charts look the same across most grid-based crafts — here's how to parse one.
The grid
Each cell corresponds to one unit of your craft: one stitch, one bead, one drill, one pixel. Don't stress about the grid lines — they're there to help you count, not to be stitched.
Color key
The key maps symbols or colors on the chart to thread/floss codes. If your chart uses both, the symbol is the source of truth — colors can look similar on screen. Check the code against your floss before you start.
Finding your place
Most charts mark the center with arrows on the top and side edges. Follow them inward, fold your fabric to find its center, and begin stitching from there. Work in blocks of one color at a time for fewer thread changes.
